Great Western Way cycle route map
This is the official Great Western Way cycle route map for the 167-mile (269km) ride from Bristol to London (National Route 4).
Includes cycling by the River Avon and the Kennet and Avon Canal, plus the Thames.
The lovely route passes through Bath, Bradford on Avon and Devizes next to the canal. It then takes to quiet lanes through Pewsey, Hungerford and Newbury.
From Reading onwards, much of the route is away from roads, leading into London.
At Chelsea Embankment, the off-road route ends and you would be on roads if you complete the entire route to the Brunel Museum.
The map is an excellent strip map following the route from Bristol into Somerset, Wiltshire, Berkshire and into London. There are clear indication of – for example – the really gorgeous cycling along the Kennet and Avon Canal.
Find time to explore Bradford on Avon, with its tithe barn, Saxon and Norman churches and medieval chapel amongst the gold-coloured weavers’ cottages on the hill overlooking the town.
